It’s not so much that we are sitting, as much as it is WHERE we are sitting. Sitting is good. Sitting is necessary (particularly at the mall when you wife is shopping). Sitting is restful. One can contemplate and observe when one sits. One might see some things that others who are not sitting may miss. But it is important to recognize where we are sitting. If we sit at the foot of the cross, we recognize the significance of that cross and what Jesus did for me on it. How do we sit at the foot of the cross you ask? Do we buy a cross or build cross of our own and place in our yard so that we may sit under it? No, not really. That would be a cool project, but not necessary. One sits at the foot of the cross every time one enters into prayer and meditates on the Word of God. We can enter His presence anywhere and anytime we want. That is what Christ did for us on the cross. His sacrifice allowed the veil to be torn from top to bottom and we can now enter into the most Holy of Holies by getting on our knees and praying to God by faith through Jesus Christ. We learn much when we sit at the foot of the cross. We learn how sinful we really are and how gracious God really is. His love is eternal and I must sit at the foot of the cross daily because it reminds me how lost I am without Him and how marvelous it is to be able to call on Him anytime I want and know that He hears me. It is wonderful to feel His presence and receive His wisdom and know how much He loves me, even though I have done nothing to deserve it. He loves me, a miserable sinner, not because of anything I have done, but because of who He is. He knows me and He loves me anyway. So I sit.
