On this day in history, Jan. 22, 1973, the Supreme Court issued its landmark decision in Roe v. Wade — claiming that the restrictive state regulation of abortion (in Texas) was unconstitutional.
50 years. 50 years of horror and darkness and death in America.
More than 63 million abortions are estimated to have taken place in the U.S. since the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that granted federal protections to women seeking to terminate their pregnancies.
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the nation’s oldest pro-life organization, estimates that 63,459,781 abortions have taken place since 1973. That estimate was gathered by tracking data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Guttmacher Institute, which previously served as a research arm of the nation’s preeminent abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.
63 million babies. 63 million innocent lives who did nothing to deserve the fate they received. 63 million lives snuffed out in an instant. 63 million children . . . gone.
And yet . . . God is watching. God is waiting. God offers forgiveness for all. God is merciful. God is Holy. God is Love. And yet, He knocks. And yet, He calls. And yet . . . He waits.
“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139:13-16
